The Assassin’s Creed franchise has touched on Indian history before — Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India gave us a 2.5D side-scroller set during the Anglo-Sikh wars, featuring Arbaaz Mir. But the subcontinent’s history offers so much more untapped potential for a full open-world title.
The Gupta Empire
Imagine a game set during the Gupta period (roughly 4th–6th century CE), widely regarded as India’s Golden Age. The era produced breakthroughs in mathematics — including the concept of zero — astronomy, and Sanskrit literature. An Isu artifact hidden in the court of Chandragupta II could drive the Templar-Assassin conflict through Nalanda’s ancient university, the Ajanta caves, and the bustling trade routes of the Silk Road.

The Vijayanagara Empire
Fast-forward to the 15th century, and Vijayanagara — the “City of Victory” — was one of the largest and wealthiest cities in the world. The sprawling Hampi ruins we see today are just a fraction of what once stood. Imagine parkour across its massive temple complexes, bazaars, and palace grounds, with the Assassin-Templar conflict woven into the empire’s complex relationship with the Deccan Sultanates.
With Assassin’s Creed Shadows taking us to feudal Japan, the door is open for more Asian settings. An India-set mainline title would be a dream come true for fans who’ve been waiting since the brief teases in the Chronicles series and the Brahman graphic novel.
